Scott Tassie Passes Away at 55

Scott A. Tassie of Hermiston died on March 7, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 55.

He was born on July 19, 1966 in Hermiston to Ralph and Faye Corum Tassie.

Scott was raised and attended schools in Hermiston, graduating from Hermiston High School in the class of 1984. At the age of 19, he owned and operated the Hermiston Texaco Station on Hermiston Avenue before going to work with his dad at Desert Security. He later owned and operated Desert Security for several years. Scott went to work as a dispatcher for Umatilla County on June 1, 1999. He proudly dedicated his life to service to Umatilla County for over 22 years until the time of his passing as a sergeant in the communications division.

Scott was united in marriage to Kerry Kasper on June 2, 2015 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. He had been a member of the Hermiston Eagles Lodge #2909. Scott was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, Mariners fan and Tri-City Americans fan and enjoyed going to watch the Seattle Kraken hockey team play in both Seattle and Las Vegas. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and occasional projects around the house, and loved Huskie and German Shepherd dogs.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kerry Tassie, Hermiston; mother, Faye Hamman and her husband Mike, Hermiston; step daughters, Stephanie Kasper and Kristina Kasper, both of Hermiston, and Jessica (Martin) Hayden and her husband Troy, Gresham; brothers, Kevin Tassie and wife June, Hermiston and Rick Tassie and wife Dana, Hermiston; nieces, Krissy Cunningham and Nicole (Blake) Graham; nephew, Matt Tassie; great nephews, Axel and Wyatt Tassie; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Although Scott did not have children of his own, he was a loving and strong father figure to many that needed him throughout his life.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Tassie.

A celebration of life with honors will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Hermiston Community Center, 415 S. Highway 395.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Scott’s memory may be made to Umatilla County Search and Rescue in care of Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, P.O. Box 289, Hermiston, Ore., 97838.
