An elderly man with dementia was found Monday evening after wandering off from a rest area off Interstate 84.
The Oregon State Police took the initial report and requested assistance. Search and rescue teams from Umatilla, Union and Walla Walla counties joined in the search.
According to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, the 72-year-old man had walked away from the Deadman’s Pass rest area at milepost 228. A resident from Meacham who heard about the search located the man on Emigrant Road just west of Deadman’s Pass and notified searchers.
