The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office activated its search and rescue team Friday following an ATV rollover accident near Ukiah.

The sheriff’s office was notified around 9 a.m. Friday of the accident on the Frazier Creek Trail within the Winom Frazier OHV Recreation Area in Ukiah.

Two passengers were reported injured – one with minor injuries and the other, an adult female, had serious injuries to her legs and hips.

Search and Rescue members carry an injured ATV rider to a Forest Service vehicle on Friday.

After locating the injured party, the woman had to be packed on a narrow ATV trail by hand after being placed in a position of relative comfort.

A six-person team rotated carrying her a little over one half mile. She was then transferred to the back seat of a U.S. Forest Service vehicle that had backed up a very narrow old logging spur that intersected with the ATV Trail. The patient was then driven down to the LifeFlight landing zone. Both the U.S. Forest Service crews and Forest service law enforcement were present.

Other agencies involved included officials from the Wallowa Whitman National Forest, LifeFlight Network, Oregon State Police, Pendleton Fire & Ambulance, and independent ATV operators on.

This was an excellent example of interagency cooperation. We wish the patient a speedy recovery,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement released today.
