A truck driver was killed when his vehicle was struck by a train near Echo on Tuesday.
According to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, two semi-trucks, each with double trailers hauling hay, were traveling together along Cunningham Road heading toward Reith Road around 3 p.m. when the first semi-truck crossed a set of train tracks without incident.
The second truck, for unknown reasons, stopped with its cab on the tracks. A westbound train struck the passenger side of the cab killing Lester Sickles, 42, of Kennwick, Wash. No other injuries were reported.
UCSO along with an Oregon State Police crash reconstructionist are continuing the investigation.
