Hermiston Rotary Club member Steve Williams asks Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann to sign a proclamation declaring Sept. 21 to be the International Day of Peace.

Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann and the Hermiston Rotary Club are encouraging area residents to take part in the International Day of Peace on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Hermiston Rotary Club member Steve Williams requested that the mayor sign the proclamation declaring Sept. 21 to be the International Day of Peace.

“I think it’s very appropriate for our city to recognize the International Day of Peace,” said Williams.

The proclamation urges “all government departments and agencies, organizations, schools, places of worship and individuals in our city to commemorate, in an appropriate manner, the International Day of Peace. This may include service projects, cultural exhibits and performances, a moment of silence, ringing of bells, sharing the universal message ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ at noon, vigils, religious services, and other education and public awareness activities in order to help establish a global day of peace in our homes, our communities, and between nations.”
