He was born on Feb. 12, 1943 in Pendleton to Norman and Dorothy Scroggins Anderson. He was raised and attended schools in Portland, graduating from Franklin High School in 1961. Dean was united in marriage to Joyce Miller on Aug. 27, 1961 in Portland. He worked for Alberton’s grocery until 1971 when they moved to Salem where he worked for Frito Lay. They moved to Hermiston in 1974 where they have lived since. Dean worked as a route salesman for Hostess/Wonder Bread until 1985 when he retired due to his health. He served on the Hermiston City Council from 1997 thru 2000 and he and Joyce volunteered as park hosts for several years. Dean enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and woodworking. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his family including supporting his grandchildren at various sporting events and activities.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Anderson, Hermiston; sons, Ronald Anderson (Lindsey), Hermiston, and Michael Anderson (Wanda), Brownwood, Texas; daughter, Kristine Humphrey (Howie), West Richland, Wash.,; brothers, Gary Anderson, Cove, Scott Williams (Tracie), Gresham; sisters, Joy Hegstrom (Terry), Wilsonville, and Mariellen Anderson, Stanfield; grandchildrenand Lainey, Garron, Ashlei, Heather, Payton, and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Jenna, Carter and Serenity; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston.
