Florence May Melvin, 89, died Wednesday, Feb, 18, 2015 at the Columbia Care Cottage in Hermiston.
Florence was born March 06, 1925 in Topeka, Kan., to Orlin and Alta Spear.
Florence loved her family and was always available to join in on all family events. Two family reunions were held at her place in Hermiston on Punkin Center Road. She worked in the West Park Elementary School cafeteria for many years. She often took in children that needed a home. No one was turned away from the Melvin residence. Florence made her home the castle where everyone was made to feel welcome. Her special moments were when she spent time with her grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her two sisters, Irene Brown, and Pauline Huff and their children, including her deceased sister, Etta Nance’s daughter; seven children, Marie Robertson, Betty Roussos, Lee Melvin, Darlene TeHeneppe, Doris Walls, Karen Boardman, and Donna Brown; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials in Florence’s memory may be made to Columbia Care Cottage where Florence resided.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
A celebration of life service will follow at the Hermiston Elks Lodge at 2:30 p.m.
