Jerry D. Elston of Stanfield died on Aug. 26, 2015 in Richland, Wash., at the age of 76.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1938 in Sanford, Miss., to Appleton Ellis Garrick and Wannalee Bishop Garrick. Jerry was raised and attended school in Crescent, Ore.,, graduating from Gilchrist High School. She married Robert “Bob” Elston on March 4, 1957 in Crescent. They lived in Klamath Falls, Hermiston, Eugene, Sublimity, Prineville, Roseburg, and the last eight years in Stanfield. Jerry had worked several jobs over the years. She was a retail clerk and secretary, and worked as a secretary for Douglas County Christian School. Jerry worked the last five years of her working career preparing and serving lunches at the Roseburg Catholic School, a job she dearly loved and the children dearly loved her. Throughout her adult life Jerry taught children’s Sunday school and children’s church. She enjoyed sewing for herself, family, grandchildren, and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years: Bob Elston, Stanfield, OR; son: Robert Timothy Elston, Portland, OR; daughter: Lisa Anne Mavis, Stanfield, OR; brother: John Garrick & wife Joy, Crescent, OR; 7 grandchildren: Kelli, Jolie, Rustin, Ian, Garth, Marissa, & Dalee; 8 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 4 nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Jo Hauptman, and a brother: Jim Garrick.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stanfield Assembly of God Church, 350 N. Sherman St., Stanfield, OR 97875.
Private family burial will be held at the Hermiston Cemetery.
