Interstate 84 and U.S. 395 remain closed in eastern Oregon due to severe weather and stuck, unchained trucks blocking lanes.
Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation have been working through the night and into this morning to get the routes open, but heavy snowfall, blizzard like conditions and other challenges have hampered operations.
I-84 is closed both eastbound and westbound between Exit 216 (6 miles east of Pendleton) and Exit 265 (east of La Grande). I-84 westbound is also closed to all traffic between Ontario Exit 374 and La Grande Exit 265 due to limit truck parking in Baker City and La Grande.
Local westbound traffic trying to get home to Baker and Union Counties may be able to access the westbound freeway between Ontario and Baker City. Check TripCheck for Ontario Level 2 closure details by clicking on the Ontario westbound closure icon.
Other highway closures include OR 204, OR 245 and a portion of U.S. 30 between Baker City and Haines. These routes are not viable detours for freeway traffic and are only open for local freight and passenger vehicles.
Crews are working to open the highways as soon as possible. Continue checking TripCheck.com or call 511 / 800-977-6368 for updates conditions. Outside Oregon, call 503-588-2941. Do not blindly follow GPS navigation devices/apps for detour options, as many other routes are impacted by the winter-like weather.
