The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office issued 31 warnings and citations during the two-week period while it focused on seat belt and child restraint usage, as well as texting and speeding.

During the period – from Feb. 9-22 – six deputies put in more than 20 additional hours of traffic enforcement patrols.

“Our goal was to increase traffic safety by educating the public about the importance of seat belts and child restraints, and the dangers of texting while driving and speeding,” said Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan.

The effort was funded by the Oregon Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as part of their annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
