The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office has increased the number of patrol deputies on duty during the holiday season as part its participation in the Oregon High Visibility Enforcement program.

The sheriff’s office said that since Dec. 13, deputies have been actively patrolling for drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The program is funded by a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation and the Oregon Sheriff’s Association.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging citizens to report suspected intoxicated drivers by calling 541-966-3651 or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
