Shooting Leaves 1 Dead on Umatilla Reservation

A California man is scheduled to make an appearance today before a federal magistrate in Portland in connection with two shootings on the Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation that left one man dead and another hospitalized.

Umatilla Tribal Police were called to the scene of a reported shooting around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19. The shootings allegedly took place on Willow Drive. Tribal police found Anthony Jimenez, age 27, of Pendleton, had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he died. He is a non-tribal member.

A second adult man was also shot and transported to a regional hospital where he is listed in serious condition. According to Tribal police, he is a tribal member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Shortly after the incident, the Umatilla Tribal Police and the FBI detained a California man, Victor Contreras, 23, and arrested him in connection with the shootings. He is charged with one count of murder, one count of first degree assault, one count of second degree assault, one count of felony unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of felon in possession of a weapon against Contreras.

The investigation is continuing.
