Deserea Verwey, Simmons Insurance Group’s newest agent, knew she found her calling when a client walked in to seek her help. The client felt he was paying too much for his auto insurance with a different agency.
“We walked through the insurance buying process together to make sure we were covering all of his needs and to help him understand how his insurance can protect him,” she said. Verwey was able to provide her client better coverage, a better rate, and also be a continual resource for her client.
Verwey is married and has two children. She is active in with her daughter’s Competitive Dance and her son’s T ball. She is very involved in her community with volunteering for various activities. One of Verwey’s biggest passions is helping people understand food allergies, as her son has a peanut and tree nut allergy. She would like to bring awareness to the community about food allergies.
For instance, the Teal Pumpkin Project is something that occurs during Halloween. “This is where you have a teal pumpkin and you have non-food items, such as pencils, tattoos and stickers,” she said. “Halloween is a food-based holiday, however to kids that have food allergies Halloween is a scary time for them and they often feel left out, so by doing the Teal Pumpkin Project all kids can have a safe and fun time.”
