Venita Ruth “Skeet” Hunter of Stanfield died on Aug. 28, 2023 in Kennewick, Wash. at the age of 89.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1934 in Camas, Wash. to James and Myrtle Viola McCallister Jackson.

She was raised in Fall Creek. Venita was united in marriage to Bobbie “Bob” Hunter on Jan. 6, 1951 in Roseburg. They lived in Salem, where they owned B & D Roofing before later moving to Stanfield in 1974, where they owned B D Hunter Roofing, their family business that included daughter Terri and sons Mike, Larry and Randy until retiring in 1998. Venita enjoyed reading, sewing, swimming, camping, as well as serving as the deer and elk camp cook.

She is survived by her children, Mike Hunter (Teresa), Pendleton, Diane Evans (Dennis), La Pine, Terri Bailey (Paul), Stanfield, Larry Hunter (Brenda), Echo, Rose Hunter, Coquille, Jim Hunter (Becky), Richland, and Randy Hunter (Tracy), Hermiston; brother, Benny Jackson, Dallas; sisters, Elsie Gabrisch, Springfield and Anna Massingham, Fall Creek; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Venita was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Hunter; her parents; a grandson, Tyler Campbell; and a sister, Effie Eldridge.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Stanfield.
