An Irrigon man was arrested Monday after he was found sleeping in a car parked in the garage of a home he was allegedly burglarizing.

A resident on Southshore Drive entered his garage and found that it had been broken into and the contents in disarray, according to the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office. The resident noticed that several of his tools and other property had been loaded into one of his vehicles in the garage. He then looked in a second vehicle in the garage and found Joseph Arthur Manning, 28, asleep in the car.

When law enforcement officers arrived, they found Manning in possession of what is suspected to be methamphetamine, several pieces of women’s jewelry, mail from Umatilla, Hermiston and Irrigon, and credit cards, none of which were his.

He now faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief, theft and possession of a controlled substance. More charges are expected.

Law enforcement agencies involved also included the Umatilla Police Department, the Oregon State Police.
