State Rep. Greg Smith has been named to the committee tasked with further examining the future of the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River. The appointment was made by House Speaker Tina Kotek (D-Portland) and the committee will meet in November.

“The I-5 bridge over the Columbia is important to all of Oregon because it is a vital transportation link for moving goods by road, rail and water,” Rep. Smith said. “I’m honored that Speaker Kotek would appoint me to this committee examining how we move forward.”

Smith is a member of the Joint Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Capital Construction, which handles the budgets for large government projects like the bridge replacement.

“Rep. Smith is ideal for this committee,” said Gary Neal, general manager of the Port of Morrow. “He thoroughly understands the importance of key transportation links and how they affect the economy.”

Port of Umatilla General Manager Kim Puzey also applauded Smith’s appointment.

“His selection to this important committee will help ensure important work to our vital infrastructure is completed,” he said.
