The Oregon State Fire Fighter Joint Apprentice Training Committee announced the selection of three new apprentice sites, one of which will be located at Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 in Hermiston.
This decision comes as a result of HB 2294 in the 2023 Oregon Legislative session, which allocated funds to establish a Bureau of Labor & Industry-regulated Fire Fighter Apprentice Program.
“Last year with the passage of HB 2294, I was proud to support the development of fire fighter apprentice training sites across Oregon,” said Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner). “It was pivotal that a site be selected in Eastern Oregon, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that Umatilla Fire District #1 has been chosen.”
