Soroptimist International of the Greater Hermiston Area is seeking applicants for their “Live Your Dream” education and training awards for women.
The awards were formerly known as the “Women’s Opportunity Awards.” Three awards (one for $1,000 and two for $500) will be awarded by the local club. The winner of the $1,000 award will then be entered in competition for further “Live Your Dream” awards at the regional and federation levels of Soroptimist.

Applicants must also demonstate financial need.
The awards may be used for any expenses which help the recipient fulfill their goal of improving their education and skills.
Applications are available by calling Deniece Derbyshire at 541-567-9409 or 541-561-6728 or by e-mailing sigreaterhermistonarea@soroptimist.net or dderb@charter.net Applications are available in writeable pdf form and may be submitted by email or regular mail. They must be received by the club by Dec. 15. (This deadline has been extended from the one listed on the application.)
The Women’s Opportunity Program (created in 1972) and the new “Live Your Dream” Education and Training Award Program for Women were implemented by Soroptimist International as a way to help women make a better life for themselves and their families through increased access to education and better career opportunities –a chance they have not previously had, or may never otherwise have. Women who have previously received one of these awards report an increase in self-confidence and self-esteem, and pride at being recognized for having the courage to change their lives.
