Stanfield Senior Takes First Place in American Legion Speech Contest

Trinity Buladaco, a senior at Stanfield Secondary School, was selected as the local winner of the American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship competition. The contest was hosted on Jan. 13, 2024, by Hermiston American Legion Post No. 37.

According to a press release from Post Cmdr. Aaron Wetterling, Buladaco received a $500 scholarship and a certificate of distinction for her efforts. Buladaco’s parents, Lillibeth and Kevin Stocker; her sister, Samantha; and school counselor Kirsten Wright, were also present to help celebrate the teen’s accomplishment.

Held at the national level since 1938, the oratorical contest assists students in developing additional knowledge about the U.S. Constitution. For more information, search www.legion.org/oratorical.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919. The patriotic veterans organization focuses on serving veterans and service members, as well as local communities.
