He was born on March 9, 1952 in Hartshorne, Okla., to Floyd and Bernice Vanderpool Tackett. He attended Sulpulpa High School in Supulpa, Oklahoma outside of Tulsa, OK, where he participated in track, specializing in the mile. Dennis was united in marriage to Sandra L. Van Dyke on April 7, 1973. They lived in Marcola, Oregon for many years where they raised their family. Dennis was a millwright and licensed electrician for the Kingsford Charcoal Company for 38 years. He was a volunteer fireman in Marcola where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant. Dennis was a coach, mentor, and role model for numerous kids in the Marcola area. He enjoyed hunting, camping, working with his hands, playing dominoes, and golfing. Dennis cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Sandy Tackett, Stanfield, OR; son: Travis Tackett & wife Bridget Ray Tackett, Pendleton, OR; daughter: Denise Reynolds & husband Jason Reynolds, Stanfield, OR; brothers: Thomas & T.A. Tackett, both of Junction City, OR; sister: Joreen Bruun Tackett, Cottage Grove, OR; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Danny and Troy Tackett.
A celebration of life service is planned for March 12, 2016.
