James “JP” Nelson, born in Ketchikan Alaska, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning at his home in Stanfield at the age of 49.
After graduating Ketchikan high school 1984, he spent a few years in Juneau, then back to Ketchikan, and then headed south; finally settling in Stanfield about 12 years ago.
JP spent the majority of his working career around trucks, driving trucks, or simply telling tales of trucks. Yet he will be best remembered as a man who truly loved helping others and lived as a genuine example of a “good Samaritan.” No matter what life was dealing him, he would run to the aid of anyone.
He was passionate about cars, motorcycles, racing, spending time with family and friends, and mending junk parts into something useful.
He is survived by his parents; 8 siblings; two sons; a granddaughter; and a myriad of friends who relied on him for a kind word or a dumb joke.
A gathering to remember JP will be held at the Stanfield Moose Lodge (615 W. Coe Ave.) in Stanfield at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.
