State Legislature Passes Drought Relief Funding for Oregon’s Farmers

The Oregon Legislature on Monday passed SB 892 and SB 5561 to provide a $100 million drought relief package to support farmers and ranchers across the state who have been impacted by historic droughts and severe wildfires of the past two years.

“Our state is home to more than 37,000 ranch and farm operators and this funding package will assist many of them throughout Oregon, especially those located in the heavily impacted areas of the Klamath Basin and Jefferson County,” said State Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) who carried SB 892 to the House Floor.

SB 892 passed unanimously in the House and 28-2 in the Senate. SB 5561 passed 52-3 in the House and 26-2 in the Senate. Both bills are headed to the Governor’s desk for consideration.
