Steve McCluskey

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Leon McCluskey, 67, from Hermiston. Steve passed at the home he shared with his beloved wife on July 13, 2024 after a sudden unexpected cardiac event.

Steve graced the world with his presence on June 11, 1957 in California.

Growing up in San Jose, he attended Camden High School before joining his father and uncle in the family trade as a drywall technician. Excelling quickly at his craft earned him the nickname “Super Steve” by local tradesmen. He moved to Hermiston in 1994, where he had lived since. Steve worked construction for Local 59 Carpenters’ Union for several years before retiring. Steve met his first wife, Teri Lyn Hodnett in high school. They were married on Oct. 24 1979, separating in 2006. They shared one beautiful daughter, Carolyn McCluskey.

Steve met his current wife, Julia Garrett in Hermiston in April 2008. They shared many wonderful years together before marrying on May 6, 2023. Steve battled cancer shortly after meeting Julia. Side by side they beat it together; he was a 16-year cancer survivor! Steve had a love of classic cars. Through the years, he owned several GTOs and a 1956 Ford F100 truck. He enjoyed playing pool and music, but his greatest enjoyment was riding the road with Julie on their Harley.

He was so very loved by many and will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Julia McCluskey; his only daughter, Carolyn (Donnie) McCluskey/Tuck of Connell, Wash.; stepdaughter, Erin (Jeff) Ellwood/Hensley; stepsons, Joshua Jackson and Cody (Kendall) Jackson/Loftus; his brother, Craig McCluskey; sister, Claudia “Beth” and (Gary) McCluskey/Fagilde of Stockton, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Steve, the eldest of three children, was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit “Leon” and Lorene McCluskey of Modesto, Calif.

Services will be announced.

Contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
