Steven C. “Steve” Myrick of Portland, former longtime Hermiston resident, died on May 13, 2020 in Portland at the age of 65.
He was born on May 2, 1955 in Hermiston to Frank and Lois Myrick.
Steve was raised and attended school in Hermiston. In 1972, he set the school record for the javelin throw, replacing the record that his father, Frank, had set in 1947. Steve graduated from Hermiston High in the class of 1973. He then attended Idaho State and Boise State before joining the United States Navy. Steve was honorably discharged; he returned to Hermiston and worked as a salesman for Myrick Chrysler Dodge for a time. He then earned his X-ray technician certification in Ashland. Steve later was injured on the job and not able to continue working. He lived in Hermiston, Vancouver, Wash. and in the Portland area for the last four years.
Steve was an avid reader who enjoyed fishing, hunting and a good BOGO sale.
He is survived by his parents, Frank and Lois Myrick, Umatilla; sisters, Karen Sligar, Twin Falls, Idaho and Susan Keesey, Cornelius; one uncle; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by a sister, Lori Myrick.
A private family burial will be held at the Hermiston Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Steve’s memory to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
