Stephen H. “Steve” Spike of Hermiston passed away at his home with his family by his side on March 16, 2022 at the age of 78.
He was born on July 24, 1943 in The Dalles to John Stephen and Nancy Ann Holmes Spike.
Steve grew up and attended schools in Echo, graduating from Echo High School in the class of 1961. He then attended Oregon State University and Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry. After graduating from the school of dentistry, he returned to Eastern Oregon and began a dental practice in Hermiston in 1968. He worked at his practice for 43 years until retiring in 2011.
Steve loved going deer and elk hunting in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. He also enjoyed his many fishing trips for steelhead on the Deschutes River and marlin fishing in Los Barriles, Mexico. He enjoyed going clamming with his grandchildren at Netarts Bay on the Oregon coast. He was a man that loved the outdoors and a sports fan based on the season. He was a man of faith and attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hermiston. He enjoyed going to his kids’ and grandkids’ events, and his five grandchildren were at the center of his heart and his pride and joy. Steve was known for his humility, kindness, generosity, and zest for life. His family and friends were always entertained with his story-telling and “infinite” wisdom on many topics. Steve had a genuineness and tenderness about him that left an imprint on many.
Steve married his high school sweetheart, Sherra Lynn Abel on Feb. 18, 1967 in Hermiston. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and were always by each other’s side. They were married for 55 years and built many memories within their home and beyond with family and friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sherra; daughter, Tamry Sue Parzybok; son, Todd Stephen (Nicki) Spike; five grandchildren, Will, Addison, Mackenzie, Emma and
Kadence; two sisters, Pam Gordon and Debbie McKee; and many extended family members and close friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Timothy Parzybok.
