Steven Shockman of Hermiston Passes Away at 60

Steven M. Shockman died on Dec. 6, 2017 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 60.

He was born on July 29, 1957 in Hermiston to Arthur and Barbara Jean Newsom Shockman.

He was raised and attended schools in Hermiston and in Fruitland, Idaho, where he participated in wrestling and football. Steve married Wilma Philpott and they had two daughters, Melony and Sara, and have remained very close friends throughout the years.

He worked for Shockman Brothers in construction and later as a long-haul truck driver for Willis Shaw Trucking, and as an owner operator through the years. Steve loved going to auctions and flea markets, looking for a good deal or anything “he needed”. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors. He was always tinkering in his shop, either fixing something, creating a tool, or making things just right for his use.

He is survived by his daughters, Melony Shockman, Albany and Sara Richardson (Logan), Salem; brother, Allen Shockman, Hermiston; grandsons, Johnathan and Landon; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dick and Danny Shockman.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center, 1705 E. Airport Road, Hermiston.

A private family burial will be at the Hermiston Cemetery.
