More than 190 students, in eighth through 12 grades, participated in the InterMountain Education Service District’s Student Technology Expo at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande. The students were from 15 of the IMESD’s component school districts.
After a group welcome, students attended six sessions throughout the day that could include 3D animation, 3D printing, taking apart and diagnosing computer component issues, website development, computer programming, app development and more. In addition, students participated in the Career Advisor session to learn about career paths and their educational requirements, plus met representatives from regional companies that have jobs in technology.
“Tech Expo offered a great opportunity for students from across eastern Oregon to learn about technology options for careers right here in our region, plus be engaged with interactive sessions on a variety of subjects,” said Michele Madril, IMESD Director of Communication and Print Solutions. “We are very appreciative of our partnership this year with EOU and all they did to make this event possible.”
The Tech Expo is part of an overall IMESD program called STEP, Student Technology Expanded Programs, developed through a grant from the Oregon Department of Education. The intent of the grant is to recruit and retain students in career pathways that lead to high wage and high demand occupations and link to existing CTE Programs of Study.
