An Oregon State Police SWAT team arrested a Hermiston man on Thursday after an early-morning search was conducted at his residence.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the OSP SWAT team executed a search warrant on behalf of the Blue Mountain Enforcement Narcotics Team at 563 E. Hurlburt Ave., in Hermiston.

Though not present at the time of the warrant being served, the occupant of the residence, Jose Edgar Salvador Cervantes, 31, was located around 9 a.m. on a traffic stop.

Cervantes was ultimately charged with delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine and Oxycodone), unlawful felon in possession of a firearm, and frequenting/maintaining a place where controlled substances are used. He was lodged in the Umatilla County Jail.

Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston said Cervantes has been arrested 14 times on 73 different charges over the years.

“Mr. Cervantes is very well known to all law enforcement in Umatilla County,” Edmiston said. “He has a history of being involved in numerous investigations of extreme violence to include attempted murder. We are hopeful the commercial quantities of controlled substances seized coupled with the firearm will finally lead to a sentence of incarceration.”
