In its fourth year, ArtWORKz 2015 Junior Art Show & Competition at Tamástslikt Cultural Institute has opened with 99 submissions from young artists as far away as The Dalles, Kennewick, Boardman, and even South Dakota, and locally, from Walla Walla, Pendleton, Adams, Milton-Freewater, and Pilot Rock.

The competition features the artistic endeavors of youth under the age of 19.

“This art show and competition continues to grow every year and the caliber of art is incredible,” said Collections Curator Randall Melton. “We’re excited to be able to offer young artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in a true gallery setting.”

ArtWORKz 2015 is on exhibit in the Tamástslikt gallery now through Feb. 28. A variety of art media forms are on display including painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, digital computer-generated art, and traditional Tribal arts.

There are three age categories: 10 and under; 11-14; and 15-18. Young artists are competing for Grand Prizes, Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, Honorable Mentions, and Best Emerging Artist. The Artists’ Choice awards will be a new form of recognition determined by the participants themselves.

The competition is being judged by nationally recognized artists. Prizes will be awarded at the Feb. 14 awards reception which begins at 1 p.m. and is open to the public.
