A series of prints by pop art artist Andy Warhol will be on exhibit at Tamastslikt Cultural Institute in Pendleton on Aug. 23-Oct. 26 as part of the museum’s 15th anniversary celebration.
Cowboys and Indians, a suite of prints published in 1986, is believed to be the last series produced before Warhol’s death in 1987. The suite is composed of 10 large-format silkscreen prints featuring well-known figures such as Annie Oakley, John Wayne, Gen. George Custer and Teddy Roosevelt counterposed with American Indian images and artifacts including Geronimo, the Indian head nickel, Kachina Dolls and the Plains Indian Shield.
The exhibit is on loan from the Rockwell Museum of Corning, N.Y.
The opening of the Warhol exhibit coincides with Tamastslikt’s 15th anniversary and birthday party planned for Aug. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. Entrance to the Warhol exhibit is free all day on Aug. 23 and there is no charge to attend the opening reception and birthday party at 6 p.m.
