The winners of Tamástslikt Cultural Institute’s ArtWORKz 2015 were announced at the artists’ reception.
Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, and Honorable Mentions were awarded in each age category: 15-18, 11-14, and 10 and under. Best Emerging Artist and the new Artists’ Choice winners were also awarded. This year’s ArtWORKz showcased over 100 pieces of art submitted by young artists from throughout the region, including The Dalles, Burbank, Walla Walla, Ione, Pendleton, Kennewick, Pilot Rock and beyond.
Judges were Lynn Woolson, MaryAnn Duffy, and Avary McKay. Grand Prizes, Grand Prizes were awarded to Alexis Sharpe, 17, for an untitled piece; Alicia Ariano, 14, for “Family Stars”; and Lucy Oyama, 10, for “The Stormy Sky.”
Awards of Excellence went to KD Hummello, 18, for “A Soul’s Journey”; Arlen Blue Thunder, 14, for “Brother”; and Carson Oyama, 8, for “The Dreary and Frightful Night.”
Awards of Merit went to Nupur Gorain, 17, for “Weave Drawing”; Robert Windy Boy, 12, for an untitled piece; and Crae Campbell, 9, for “Upstream.”
Honorable Mentions in the 0-10 age group were given to Lauralee Stanger, 8; Arelia Huber, 10; Gabby Wallace, 3; Sarah Engum, 4; and Terry Dick, 9.
In the 11-14 age group, Honorable Mentions were awarded to Dani Moore, 14; Ryan Chapin, 14; Evan Pierce, 11; and Carson Moore, 12.
And for the 15-18 age group, Honorable Mentions were given to Makayla Brown, 15; Shayleigh Nulf, 18; Rachael Lyon, 15; Sierra Randall, 18; Kristen Taylore, 15; Megan Hearn, 18; L’Rissa Sohappy, 15; LeeJon Totus, 17; Grayson Hughbanks, 16; and Elise Griffith, 17.
Best Emerging Artist was awarded to Alexis Sharp, 17.
Artists’ Choice awards were determined by vote of the participating artists. First Place went to Erin Monagle, 15, for “Pink Chinese Dragon” and Second Place went to Lucy Oyama, 10, for “The Stormy Sky.”
The 2015 ArtWORKz Junior Art Show and Competition remains on view at Tamástslikt Cultural Institute through Feb. 28. Tamastslikt will be accepting entries for the 2016 ArtWORKz in December 2015.
