A Hermiston teenager is in critical condition today following a rollover accident on Highway 207 near Stanfield Thursday afternoon.

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the single vehicle crash that injured three people just north of Interstate 84.

The accident happened around 3:17 p.m., when a Ford F-150, driven by Tulio Umana Careres, 39, of Hermiston, was traveling northbound on Highway 207 near Stanfield Meadows Road entering a left curve. The pickup traveled straight off the highway and rolled at least twice before coming to rest on its left side.

Two passengers were traveling with Careres and were identified as Alberto Umana, 15, and Eduardo Umana, 62, both of Hermiston. Both passengers were transported by ground ambulance to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston. Alberto Umana was later transferred by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center where he is in critical condition. The other passenger’s injuries were not serious. The driver was checked at the scene and was not taken to a hospital.

Two people, including a nurse, stopped at the scene. The nurse performed CPR on the 15-year-old until an ambulance arrived and took over medical care. Employees from a motel across the street also came to help.

OSP Sgt. Seth Cooney said driver fatigue is a possible contributing factor.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Hermiston Fire & Ambulance, Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Stanfield Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
