Teri Thompson Passes Away at 69

Teri Kay Thompson of Umatilla passed away in Umatilla on Oct. 4, 2023 at the age of 69.

She was born in Ephrata, Wash. to Don and Kate Thompson.

Teri grew up and attended schools in Coulee City, Wash., graduating as co-valedictorian from Coulee City High School in the class of 1972. She then attended Washington State University, where she studied journalism. She graduated from WSU with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1976.

Teri worked as editor of the North Beach Beacon in Ocean Shores, Wash. and later for the Ritzville Adams County Journal for several years. In 1983 she moved to Hermiston, where she had owned and operated American Printing for the past 40 years. She had lived in Umatilla for the past 30 years.

Teri enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Big River Golf Course and the Tri-City Country Club. Her love for cats brought her to adopt and rescue many of them throughout the years. She was a member of Hermiston Kiwanis and enjoyed volunteering with the annual Christmas tree sales. She also was a member of the chamber of commerce, the Hermiston Downtown District and the WSU Alumni.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Kevin; sisters, Mary Haney and Donna (Jerry) Litt; brother, Ross Thompson; mother-in-law, Helen Eliason; nieces and nephews, Jason, Casey, Heidi and Andy; great nephews, Eli and Kolby; fabulous friend, Sheryl Border; and incredible cousin, Kay Godefroy.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023 at the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave.

A reception will follow at the Bruce and Molli Wilcox home, 145 W. Moore Ave., Hermiston.

Family suggests memorial donations in Teri’s memory be made to Vange John Memorial Hospice or Norman’s World Animal Rescue & Sanctuary of Sprague, Wash.
