Basketball – The Hermiston High School girls’ basketball team had their last game on Feb. 23, beating Pendleton, 51-46. The girls hosted a Cancer Awareness event during halftime, when they invited anyone who had experience with cancer to go down and receive a pink rose.

Chess Club Fundraising – Chess Club is continuing to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by setting up a donation and supporting Hermiston firefighters and their 69-flight stair climb that they are performing for the same cause.

Parking – The administration is really cracking down on student parking and ensuring that no student parks in staff slots. The newly invigorated effort is due to the changes to be made during spring break, when a portion of the parking lot will be used for new modules (built to accustom the rapidly increasing population of HHS). The parking lot will be restructured and there will be new entrance and exit signs to attempt to accommodate the smaller space.

Europe Trip – History teachers Aaron Davis and Ethan McDonald will be hosting a trip to London, Paris, and Amsterdam. Students are encouraged to converse with either teacher if they are interested, The trip is scheduled for June of 2017.

Tryouts – Tryouts for baseball and girls tennis start on today, Feb. 29. Those who are planning to participate must ensure that their paperwork is in, and that they have all fines paid for in advance.

Potential Teachers Scholarship – Those who wish to be teachers after high school have been reminded, through announcements, that they have the opportunity to receive a $500 scholarship from the Hermiston Association of Teachers. Three winners will be awarded, and applications are due April 1. Students who wish to apply must be graduating this year, 2016.
