The Caterpillar Hunter, a theater program for kids of all ages, is planned at the Boardman and Hermiston public libraries on Thursday, Aug. 8.

The Traveling Lantern Theater Company, based in Portland, will take program participants on a safari through the wild recesses of a common North American vegetable garden.

Based on the character of the late Steve Irwin (The Crocodile Hunter), the Caterpillar Hunter shrinks himself and sets off to explore the terrain, pursuing elusive bugs and strange herbage while facing adventures along the way.

Traveling Lantern has been educating and entertaining children nationwide for the past 25 years. Its mission is to bring great stories to children, to draw them into an active theater experience, to excite their minds and tickle their imaginations.

“The Caterpillar Hunter” is free and will begin at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Public Library, 235 E. Gladys Ave., and at 3 p.m. at the Boardman Public Library. The programs are sponsored by the Oregon Trail Library District (OTLD), Hermiston Public Library and Libraries of Eastern Oregon (LEO) as part of the libraries’ participation in the region’s LEO Cooperative Programs Fund.
