Thomas Suggs “Tom” Barton, former Boardman and Maupin resident, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2018 at home in Pendleton at the age of 92.
He was born on March 29, 1926 in Booneville, Ark.
Tom moved with his family to California as a teen, where he graduated from Stockton High School. He married Dorthy Lee Warren on Oct. 13, 1951 in Stockton, Calif. In 1952, Tom graduated from the College of the Pacific (now University of the Pacific) with a degree in business administration and continued graduate studies in business education. He taught at Healdsburg High School from 1955 to 1963 and San Mateo High School from 1963 to 1987. After retiring and moving to Boardman, he continued to substitute teach until he was about 80 years old.
Tom enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorthy; children, Larry (Amy), Cherie (John Griffith) and Randy (Donna); grandchildren, Brooke, Bryan, Michelle, Trevor and Neil; and four great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Wynona, and his parents, Aubrey and Ora Green Barton.
Funeral services will be held on Oct. 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Kelly Cemetery near Maupin.
