The Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Friday morning’s fatal log truck crash that resulted in the death of a 51-year old Montana man along Highway 204 near Tollgate in Umatilla County.

According to Sgt. Sterling Hall, on July 26, 2013 at approximately 7:02 a.m., an unloaded log truck driven by Shane Gordon Cosgriff, 51, of Greycliff, Mont., was westbound on Highway 204 at approximately 7 a.m. near milepost 18 when Cosgriff lost control negotiating a left curve. The truck and trailer traveled off the highway and rolled once before coming to rest.

Cosgriff, driving for BL Lathrop Ranch out of Lostine, was not using safety restraints and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP troopers from the Pendleton Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Speed is a possible contributing factor.

The OSP was assisted at the scene by East Umatilla County Rural Fire Protection District, East Umatilla County Health District Medic 400, US Forest Service, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway was open for area traffic during the investigation.
