Two Injured in ATV Accident Near Hermiston

Two men are in the hospital this morning after suffering serious injuries when their ATV struck a vehicle Saturday evening at the intersection of W. Punkin Center Road and Kik Road.

The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of the accident around 7:30 p.m.. According to the sheriff’s office, a 53-year-old Hermiston man was driving the four-wheeler with an 18-year-old Umatilla man as a passenger. The ATV was traveling south on Kik Road when it drove into the side of a vehicle that was traveling westbound on W. Punkin Center Road. Both men were thrown from the four-wheeler onto the roadway, Neither was wearing helmets.

The ATV driver was taken to Good Shepherd Hospital and then flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash. At last report, he was unconscious and in critical condition. The passenger was also taken to GSH where he was conscious, but was later transported to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland for further treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.

The sheriff’s office said more information would be released when made available.
