The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office received a $6,000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation, which was used to purchase 11 Automated External Defibrillator machines (AEDs) and a training device.
The portable AEDs will be placed in patrol vehicles and in facilities where they can be deployed quickly in case of an emergency. The first few minutes after a person has experienced a cardiac arrest, one of the leading causes of death in this country, is critical to their survival. An AED is a very effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest, and is an easy to operate tool for someone with no medical background.
