Ukiah School District has named longtime science teacher Laura Orr as new district superintendent.
Over the past 18 years, Orr has taught science classes for grades 5-12 in Ukiah. Orr was raised in Ukiah and her commitment to her home community was a key consideration for the Ukiah School Board’s appointment for this position.
“As a board, we had discussed the options at our disposal which were to fly the job externally or internally,” said Wendy Eddy, chair of the Ukiah School Board. “After much deliberation, we decided that filling internally would be in the district’s best interest.”
Orr’s years of service as a teacher were among several important factors the board considered.
“Laura will be a great fit for the position as she possesses the drive, ambition and adaptability that Ukiah School District needs to be successful into the future,” said Eddy
Orr said she is looking forward to starting her new role as superintendent.
“I am looking forward to supporting the unique challenges of modern education in rural areas as well as helping our great school and community continue to thrive,” Orr said.
