The Umatilla County Historical Society was recently awarded a grant for $1,500 from the Pacific Power Foundation.
The money will be used to improve and upgrade the flooring in the Julie Reese Classroom at the Heritage Station Museum. Eastern Oregon Business Source Community Development Consultant Karen Willis wrote the grant.
The Julie Reese Classroom is a community space that groups can rent for meetings and events. The museum also hosts educational events in the space. The current carpet in the room will be replaced with vinyl plank flooring that mimics hardwood. The new flooring will not only be more durable and easier to maintain, but will also make the room feel more attractive and elegant.
“We appreciate the partnership and support from the Pacific Power Foundation, and are excited to move forward with the project,” said Umatilla County Historical Society Executive Director Kari Brooks. “The Julie Reese Classroom provides such a great community space and we anticipate the upgrade to the flooring to be just another step toward hosting more groups and events at the Heritage Station Museum.”
The flooring upgrades are part of a much larger capital improvements campaign being undertaken by the Historical Society. Other upgrades include replacing windows, installing security fencing, replacing the HVAC system, and making repairs to the historic buildings on the museum site.
