The unemployment rate in Umatilla County fell a tenth of a percentage point in September, while Morrow County’s jobless rate rose by the same amount.
The September unemployment rate for Umatilla County dropped from 7.6 percent in August to 7.5 percent. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2013 stood at 8.2 percent. Morrow County’s rate rose from 7.8 percent in August to 7.9 percent. The September jobless rate is up 0.8 percent from a year ago.
The statewide unemployment rate for September was unchanged from August at 7.1 percent, which is down from the 7.6 percent rate a year ago.
Nationally, the jobless rate in September fell from August’s mark of 6.1 to 5.9 percent. A year ago, the nation’s unemployment rate was 7.2 percent.
In Oregon, Benton County (5.5 percent) had the lowest unemployment rate in September. Grant County’s 11.1 jobless rate in September was the highest in the state.
