Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicked off in a big way last week at Umatilla Electric Cooperative.
Employees of UEC are dressing up creatively in pink on Thursdays and participating in fund-raising activities throughout the month to support the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation and their mission to help members of the community with breast cancer screening and treatment.
Fundraising activities that employees can participate in include purchasing pink “gear” like socks, lanyards, and wristbands, as well as activities such as employee miniature golf competitions, and purchasing raffle tickets for various prizes.
This is not the first year that UEC partnered with the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, UEC employees raised over $3,500 that was donated to the cause.
This year, the employees are linking arms with the community to create an even bigger impact. Through the month of October, pink ribbons can be purchased in the lobby of the UEC Hermiston office for five dollars each. Each ribbon can be customized in honor of someone that has fought the disease and will hang on the honor tree in the lobby through the end of the month. All funds collected during the month of October will be donated to the Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation and will be used to support screening and treatment of breast cancer in the community.
