The Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District swore in its new chief, Steven R. Potts on Thursday night.
Potts was sworn in by the fire district’s board chairman Fred Sheely. Board member Darla Huxel was also in attendance. Potts has been on the job officially since July 1, but this was the first meeting of the new fiscal year. Potts’ first official duty after being sworn in? Swearing in his new assistant chief, Robert Tooley. These positions became vacant after the retirements of Chief Michael Roxbury and Assistant Chief Stephan Vandever.
The Umatilla RFPD is a volunteer based fire district overseen by a paid chief, operating in the city of Umatilla and surrounding areas. They provide fire prevention, suppression, and education in the community, and also provide quick response medical aid in the district.
