A 73-year-old Umatilla man facing eight sodomy and sexual abuse charges pleaded not guilty during a preliminary hearing at the Umatilla County Courthouse on Sept. 20.

Boyd Stanley Thomas Sr. is charged with five counts of first-degree sodomy (incest) and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse (assault with an object).

According to court records, Thomas pleaded not guilty to all charges during his preliminary probable cause hearing.

Court documents show Eugene-based attorney Lissa Laurane Casey, of Arnold Law Firm, has been appointed by the court to represent Thomas.

Thomas was scheduled to next appear at the Umatilla County Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference on Oct. 29.

He was arrested by Hermiston Police on Sept. 12 at his Umatilla apartment at 1100 Fifth St., following a grand jury indictment by Umatilla County.

According to the indictment, the state alleges Thomas committed numerous sexual acts with two minors, both under age 12 at the start of the abuse during the years of 2004-22.

Thomas is in custody at the Umatilla County Jail with his bail set at $400,000.
