Four FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams from Umatilla have advanced to the Oregon
Championship taking place this weekend, Feb. 25-26, in Hillsboro.

The 7th and 8th-grade robotics teams will compete amongst other middle and high school teams from across the state. A total of 48 teams will be competing at this FTC Championship.

The Umatilla teams advanced to the championship based on their performance at a qualifying tournament in Umatilla on Jan. 28. The four Umatilla teams advancing are as follows:

  • Team 7470 – Quicker-Picker-Upper
  • Team 15436 – Johnny
  • Team 7498 – The Wild Childs
  • Team 7499 – Nerdy Girls

At the Umatilla tournament, team Quicker-Picker-Upper qualified for the state championships by being the winning alliance captain. Team Johnny qualified by earning the Inspire Award, which is given to a team who is a role model team and inspires others. The Wild Childs placed second for the Inspire award, and Nerdy Girls were third, qualifying them for the state championship.

The teams have been hard at work this last week preparing for the state competition and
making final adjustments to their robots. For many, this state competition will only be their
second time competing.
