Geneveive “Gen” Ernestine Fields passed away on April 7, 2016 at her home in Umatilla at the age of 85.
Gen was born on Aug. 27 1930, in Omaha, Ark., to Claude, and Nellie Mathis. Gen was fourth of the nine siblings.
Gen met her husband Manford “Tim” Fields at a dance in Council Holler, Ark., as a young woman and the two were married Nov 9th 1950. Gen attended these dances regularly with her sisters she had a a love for country and western music and, loved to dance which brought her joy her entire life.
Gen was an expert seamstress and showed her skills while employed by Pendleton Woolen Mills in Milwaulkie for several years, she also managed the freight department for Fred Meyers in Portland for 5 years before relocating to Umatilla where she became the Avon Lady in town. For almost 26 years Gen delivered her orders of Avon personally around town and was friends with all of her customers. Gen would take the time to come in and visit the children of these women she sold Avon to and would sit and visit over coffee, everyone knew she was a friend to all. Gen was in the Presidents club with Avon sales for most of her time with the company.
Gen was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Irrigon where she made life long friends with several members. She also enjoyed years of crafting, crocheting, and sewing as hobbies.
The blessing Gen loved most dearly was her family. Her beautiful love for children is unparalled. She was a devoted mother to her 3 children, son Larry Fields and daughters Connie Olsen of Portland and Brenda Metter of Umatilla.
She was a constant source of love and guidance for her grandchildren Annette Rehns of Beaverton, Evan Olsen of Vancouver, Lori Ann Fields of Florida, Amy Mealey of Umatilla, and Adrien Mealey of Portland.There were also great grandchildren lucky enough to be touched by Gen’s love,Shaydean, Alisha, Ashley, Destin, Kara, Parker, Kameron, Isiaih, Tyler, Grey, Aj, and Sophie.
Gen was Proceeded in death by The love of her life, her husband of 51 years Tim Fields, Her son and first born child Larry Fields, and her two great grand children Ashley and Destin. We all take comfort in knowing she is at peace with the angels now and she is protected and loved.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 3:30 P.M. at the Irrigon Seventh Day Adventist Church, 205 Tumbleweed Lane.
