Umatilla's John Correa Passes Away at 78

John E. Correa, of Umatilla ane longtime Echo resident, died on Sept. 26, 2016 in Hermiston at the age of 78.

He was born on Oct. 30, 1937 in Pendleton to John B. and Arlene Nunn Correa. John was raised and attended school in Echo. He worked at the Umatilla Army Depot for a short time before following his true passion as a farmer. John farmed on the Buttercreek for many years, mostly raising alfalfa hay until retiring in 2006. He moved to Umatilla and always cherished going on drives to see the farmland and to watch the deer. John was a cook at the Echo Fish Fry, starting all the way back to 1956. He was a member of the Echo Quarterback Club and was a volunteer with the Echo Fire Department for 15 years. John enjoyed playing and watching sports. He was a huge supporter of all kinds of sporting and community events throughout the area.

He is survived by his son: Chris Wallace, hermiston, OR; daughters: Julie Davis, Boardman, OR, Patricia Wallace, La Grande, OR, and LeAnne Lee, Priest River, ID; brother: Bob Correa, Pendleton, OR; sisters: Betty Thompson, Union, OR, and Peggy Hays, Buttercreek, OR; grandchildren: Jessica, Shanda, Zachary, Mark, Logan, Brentt, & Justin; great grandchildren: Mya with another one on the way; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Correa.

A celebration of Life service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at noon in Echo. Location to be announced.
