Lawrence G. “Larry” Tucker of Umatilla died on April 1, 2015 in Hermiston at the age of 79.
He was born on May 27, 1935 in Hat Creek, Wyo., to Lawrence S. and Ethel Stevens Tucker. Larry was raised and attended school in Lusk, Wyo. He then served in the United States Army for four years before his honorable discharge. Larry then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving six more years including the Korea War. After his honorable discharge in 1967 he moved to Oregon. Larry was united in marriage to Betty Marlnee on Jan. 1, 1970 in Kennewick, Wash. He then worked for Bonneville Power Administration as a lineman. They lived in Snohomish, Wash., Tumwater, Wash., Springfield, and Grand Coulee, Wash., before retiring and returning to Umatilla in 2004 where they have lived since. Larry worked as a greeter at Wal Mart for a time in Hermiston. He was a member of the IBEW and a life member of the VFW. Larry enjoyed fishing, tying flies, hunting, swimming, crabbing, and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Tucker, Umatilla; sons, Gordon Blankenship andwife Molly, Stanfield, James Blankenship, Irrigon; daughter, Ona Felker and Husband Mike, Winlock, Wash.; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kimberly Marlnee; and seven siblings, Myrtle, Merle, Bert, Georgia, Verna, Wayne, and Lorne.
A private family gathering will be held.
