Umatilla's Pat Buchanan Passes Away at 72

Patrick L. “Pat” Buchanan of Umatilla died on Oct. 24, 2016 in Richland, Wash., at the age of 72.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1944 in Crane Hill, Ala., to Jack and Marie Bates Buchanan.

He was raised in Alabama and later in Central Oregon. Pat was united in marriage to Sharon Miller on Nov. 16, 1963 in Madras. He then attended and graduated from barber school in Portland. They moved to Hermiston in 1972. Pat owned and operated Shear Magic in Hermiston from 1975 until 1983 and also owned the Oregon College of Beauty & Barbering in Hermiston from 1980 until 1990 when he retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. Pat enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning, camping, and family dinners.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Buchanan, Umatilla, OR; daughters: Patricia Sorenson, Hermiston, OR, Marie Fraser, Hermiston, OR; Sherri Olson, Umatilla, OR; son: Jack Buchanan, Heber City, UT; foster daughter: Lisa Nichols, CA; brothers: Paul Buchanan, Odell, OR, and Tim Buchanan, Portland, OR; sisters: Donna Steinman, Vancouver, WA, Mary McCarver, La Center, WA, Robin Buchanan, Vancouver, WA, & Lola Crabtree, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 foster grandchildren; 1 foster great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents and a great grandson, Carsyn Culp.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
